Sunny State, is not just about our homes but our state of mind. This trend is driven primarily by a need for optimism and joyfulness. In the wake of a recession, social unrest, a global pandemic and war, householders will desire to surround themselves with positive influences. Self- expression, optimistic colours and joyful designs that speak to our inner child, come together to uplift our spirits in these uncertain times.
Stuck at home, we’ve all been getting experimental and exploring our creative side, honing our culinary skills, learning a new craft and more surprisingly, becoming more connected to a chosen few, via regular online catch ups. Now, it’s about bringing all that into the real world and, like in the 1970s, there is a huge shift towards home entertaining and creating spaces to have friends over and fun times in.
We look to clean pastel shades with zesty pops to add cheerfulness. Citrus shades and sunshine yellow take centre stage, in a nod to the 70’s. Bold, maximalist homes play with sophisticated combinations of vibrant brights and upscaled graphic prints that excite and surprise. There are no simple shapes in this story; scalloped edges, wiggly lines, wobbly shapes and pom poms add a playful dimension to home products.
