High shine finishes and accents reflect the sun’s rays during daylight hours and light fixtures illuminate cabinet contents without polluting the whole room with light. Richly coloured glass and metallic threads add a warm glow to living spaces.

This trend speaks to some incredibly important emotional drivers for overwhelmed householders. There is a renewed investment in the home as a critical component to promote wellbeing. The home has become a sanctuary, a place of refuge. Homes are havens of calm and contemplation, and we’re all embracing the importance of creating comforting escapes where we can completely switch off from the outside world.
As in the magic hour when the sun is close to the horizon on a sunny day, its light appears softer and warmer, so with this trend light that pours through open spaces during the day is defused by voiles, infusing rooms with an ethereal glow. At night candles are lit, and the lights are dimmed, to encourage a period of rest and renewal.
Shapes and materials are luxurious and soothing, promoting a calm restfulness. Softness is key for furniture shapes, so sideboards have rounded edges, chairs are cocooning and corner sofas gently curved.
With good health and a happier frame of mind high on the agenda, a good night’s sleep becomes a priority. Bedrooms set the scene for a restful night. Design is tactile without being distracting and soft tonal colour flows from space to space. Soft, indirect lighting, darker colours and plush textiles create spaces that relax and soothe, whilst blackout and acoustic fabrics help to create a controlled space, free of light pollution and noise.
The colour palette of this trend reflects long, warm summer evenings and helps transition this story into Autumn. Light airy transparencies are layered with colour to create rooms that reflect sunsets and sunrises, from all the shades found in the impressive skies to colours found in the shadowy landscapes.
